Oppenheimer 
Robert Oppenheimer was born on April 22, 1904, in New York City. Robert Oppenheimer's
family was wealthy when he was a child, but they did not spend their money foolishly.
Robert's family were Jews, but did not worship regularly. Oppenheimer was a smart boy all
through school, but he lacked physical activity. Oppenheimer studied at Harvard after he
graduated he took a position in the physics department at University of California at
Berkeley. 
The government then started to make the Atom Bomb so they put Oppenheimer in charge of
the whole project. Then they moved the project to a top-secret base in New Mexico where
the bomb would be assembled. The government then got suspicious of Oppenheimer because
his parents had connections to the communist party. So all through the project he was
asked questions about his connections with the communists. Then the scientist's finally
succeeded and detonated the bombThe President then decided the drop the bomb on Japan. He
chose Hiroshima and Kokura Arsenal, but clouds covered the arsenal so they dropped it on
Nagasaki.After the war he pushed ahead with the Hydrogen Bomb test, the bomb was 1,000
time's more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.Then Oppenheimer was charged for
24 different violations involving the Communist party. They didn't find him guilty of
anything.Oppenheimer died on February 18, 1967 at Princeton, he lived to be 67 years old.
His wife died a few years later when she fell ill on vacation. 
Durinr a leve of absence(1943- 1945) He served as director of the atomic bomb project at
Los Alamos, New Mexico. His leadership and organizational skill earned him the
Presidential medal of mert in 1946. In 1963 the AEC gave him the hightest honor the
Enrico Fermi Award. One of his quote," As long as men are free to ask what they must,
free to say what they think, free to think what they will, freedom can never belost and
science can never regress." 
He was first interest in the polities was at the rise of Hitlerism in Germany. During the
Cilver War in Spain he and to stay on the republic in 1936. In the 1937's has father
died. That is when he left the communist party. In 1936 the Germany invaded Poland. Two
pysicists warned the U.S. government that if the nazis could make a nuclear bomb, and
that could threaten the people. So Oppenheimer and a group of sciencetist began to wor on
a project to make atomic bomb. They had to make a bomb the would work and would be use
full to the war so they could win. They tested the first on the plateau of Los Alamos.
